SCL Elements Inc. provides multi-protocol CAN2GO™ wireless and wired controllers for building automation. These flexible controllers/gateways provide the missing link in building automation, allowing facility managers, contractors and OEM manufacturers to deploy integrated solutions for HVAC, VAV, lighting, security and more. With CAN2GO™, you can quickly and efficiently connect multiple devices based on the EnOcean, Zigbee, BACNet, CANBus and IP/Ethernet standard protocols.
SCL is based in Montreal, Canada, and works with systems integrators, resellers and OEM manufacturers around the world to offer wired/wireless building automation solutions that optimize energy consumption while increasing the comfort of building occupants.
Our goal is integrate multiple technologies, including wireless communication, mesh networks, energy-harvesting sensors and web-based control to offer innovative and efficient products and solutions for the building automation industry. President, SCL Elements Inc. Simon Leblond is a serial entrepreneur with a background in economy and finance. He co-founded SCL Elements in 2009 to develop and commercialize what would become the innovative CAN2GO™ wired/wireless multi-protocol controllers for building automation. This followed the launch in 2004 of SCL Medtech, a manufacturer of specialized equipment for medical research and diagnostics, a very different industry, but with similar requirements for reliability, automation and precision hardware and software. He led the commercialization of the SCL GenaSIC™ product for precision production of aerosols for industrial asthma research and diagnosis. This equipment is in use at several large hospitals and research labs in Canada and Europe.
Simon Leblond holds B.Sc and M.Sc. degrees in economics from the University of Montreal. He has complementary training in Accounting from HEC-Montreal and in Technology Entrepreneurship by the MIT. Simon began his career as an entrepreneur and investor with Manolson and Leblond, a real estate investment and management company that he co-founded.
Mr. Barsoum is a 44 year veteran of the IT Industry with extensive varied and Global experience. He was 35 years at IBM which included senior management positions as Vice President of IBM Canada’s Eastern Region, CFO of IBM Canada and of the IBM Consulting Group upon its creation in New York, Chairman and CEO of IBM Canada and IBM UK Holdings, as well as General Manager of IBM Corporation’s Communications Sector and a member of IBM’s Worldwide Management Council in New York.
He was subsequently Board Director and member of the Investment Committee of CDP Capital Technologies of Montreal, one of Canada’s largest Venture Capital organizations. He was also Board Director and Co-Chair of SMTC of Markham Ontario, a NASDAQ listed company, in the Electronic Manufacturing business.
He also served, at various times, on the Boards of Cartesis of Paris, France, a PWC spin-out; of Odyssey Financial Technologies of Luxembourg; of Coventree Capital Group of Toronto, Canada; of Coradiant of San Diego, USA; of Xkoto of Boston. He was a member of the Advisory Boards of Air2Web of Atlanta and of Diversinet of Toronto, a NASDAQ listed Company.
Mr. Racine has over 30 years of experience in the IT Industry related to the development and marketing of mission critical products for the Power Industry. Co-founder of Cybectec in the beginning of the 80’s, he successfully grew the company until it became a global business selling substation automation products to Fortune 100 companies and public utilities all over the world.
After selling Cybectec in 2007 to Cooper Power Systems, a subsidiary of Cooper Industries (CBE,NSE), Yves was Director of International Business Development at Cooper Power Systems. He is now an active member of Anges Québec while creating a private portfolio of investment in promising start-ups with talented management team and strong intellectual property ownership.
He now splits his time in the management of real estate and angel investments, coaching of young entrepreneurs through his participation in various Boards and personal involvement in diverse charitable organization. His main interests are in green technologies, outdoor activities and finance.
Mr. Dillabough runs the Smart Building Practice at the Westly Group. Prior to joining the Westly Group, Mr. Dillabough was the General Manager of Corporate Environmental Affairs at eBay. In this capacity he led all of eBay’s environmental efforts and helped design and set specifications for a 200,000 sq ft Gold LEED certified building. In addition he installed San Jose’s largest commercial solar deployment (650 kW) and a 500 kW fuel cell. During these projects, Mr. Dillabough met with and built relationships with numerous green building material suppliers and vendors.
Prior to that Mr. Dillabough was the Vice President of Strategic Partnerships at eBay. This team generated $575 million in revenue through revenue sharing agreements and ad sales over a five year period. Mr. Dillabough negotiated and put in place a number of large partnerships with the US Postal Service, UPS, General Electric, Sun, and Fidelity. He also oversaw the acquisition and integration of FairMarket which at one time was one of eBay’s largest competitors.
Mr. Dillabough spent four years in corporate real estate and developed his own portfolio of close to 100 apartment units. Mr. Dillabough is one of the few people in this industry with a combination of clean tech and hands on real estate development experience.
Mr. Dillabough has a BS in Civil Engineering from California Polytechnic University. He serves on the Board of Directors for Soladigm, SCIenergy, Lunera, the Lucile Packard Hospital Foundation and OneMillionLights, and formerly served as a director of the Internet Advertising Board (IAB) and the One Laptop Per Child Association (OLPC).
Chief Technology Officer, SCL Elements Inc. Simon Caron leads efforts at SCL Elements to design, develop and deploy innovative solutions for building automation systems. Simon developed the original concept and architecture for the flagship CAN2GO™ wired/wireless multiprotocol controllers for building automation.
At SCL Medtech, Mr. Caron played a similar role, leveraging his background in medical electronics and asthma research to develop the SCL GenaSIC™ product to produce precise concentrations of aerosols. This equipment is employed in hospitals and medical research labs to diagnose the causes of industrial asthma. He also developed a government-certified service for the precision calibration of medical devices. Through this work, Simon developed a deep understanding of the hardware and software requirements for accurate sensors and controllers, the key technological elements of the new CAN2GO™ line of products.
Mr. Caron is a professional engineer and a confirmed expert in hardware and firmware design, with multiple patents related to CAN2GO™ and medical technology. Mr. Caron graduated from Laval University in Quebec City in Mechanical Engineering.
Vice-President, Product Strategy, SCL Elements Inc. With more than 10 years of experience in wireless products for telecommunications, security, and facility automation, he has brought a series of innovative products to market and has authored several patents and standards. Mr Hamer is also well versed in marketing strategies targeted to end customers, value-added resellers and OEMs.
Prior to joining SCL Elements in 2010, he cofounded Eco2Max, an engineering firm specializing in energy efficiency and building automation. He assisted numerous organizations - hotels, commercial buildings, restaurants, seniors’ residences and sporting facilities - with energy audits and the implementation of efficiency measures including automation and upgrades of lighting and HVAC systems. He also held various R&D and product management positions in large companies such as Nortel and Verint where he supervised the entire product life-cycle – from design to manufacturing to pre- and post-sales support – for products generating over $30M in sales per year.
Louis-Nicolas Hamer graduated in electrical engineering from the University of Sherbrooke’s coop program; he has also completed technology product management and entrepreneurship training by the MIT. He is a frequent contributor to various local and international conferences and publications on the subjects of energy efficiency,greenhouse gas reduction, wireless technologies and network reliability and security. Mr. Hamer is a registered professional engineer and an accredited LEED professional.
